    Pink ribbons for breast cancer symbolizes hope, cure, and support from friends, family, breast cancer survivors, and patients. October is breast cancer awareness month and the pink ribbons are worn by people. Macy's and Bloomingdale's sponsor Get Pink Get More campaign. Customers who pledge receive gift certificate in December 1, 2010 for all their shopping throughout October.. It's a good cause to help and shop for the holiday season.

    The disease strikes anyone without a cause. It does not matter whether you are male or female. It can happen to children as young as ten years old. Race, age, sex does not matter. One out of eight will die from the disease. Whether directly or indirectly everyone is affected by it.

    A pledge can help someone with medical bills or support research foundation. There are well known non profit organization such as the Susan G. Komen for the Cure where you can pledge to show your support. It is believed that she was the first to use the pink ribbon. Their grassroots efforts in the early 90s include the Race for the Cure held for the first time in New York City. During this inaugural race, participants were given pink visors to wear. At the next year's race, the Komen Foundation instead passed out pink cancer ribbons.

    However, it has also been said that responsibility for the origin of the pink ribbon lies with Estée Lauder and Self Magazine after a 1992 Self Magazine issue devoted to breast cancer awareness. By 2005, the pink ribbon's association with breast cancer was internationally understood. Since the use, and subsequently the international appeal of pink cancer ribbons, many other ribbons have been used to symbolize various cancers and to help raise awareness.
