Men's Breast Cancers - Who's at Risk and Who's Not

    By Johnny Fu

Here we have a complete list of the main risk factors related to men's breast cancer. While some are really changeable, others happen to be far tougher or impossible to alter.

Age - The risk of men's breast cancer, just like in women, tends to rise with age. Although the case of a five-year-old child diagnosed with the disease shocked the world recently, this medical condition rarely affects males below the age of 35. On average, the age of males diagnosed with the disease is 65. This is just about five years more compared to the average age of women with the same condition.

Ethnicity - In line with the surveillance of the Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) program of NCI, out of every one million men, breast cancer affects fourteen black males and eight white males. A number of studies suggest the occurrence is much higher among Jewish males who have European ancestry.

Geography - If you look at Egypt, men's breast cancer accounts for almost 6% of all cases of the disease. On the other hand, if you look at Zambia, this type of cancer in males accounts for around 15% of all cases. It has been suggested that a key contributing factor could be the excessive estrogen, which results from schistosomiasis, a special liver disease caused by parasites. Likewise, scientists have recently claimed a direct correlation between malnutrition and liver diseases.

Socioeconomic Status - A new study compared male victims of breast cancer. These patients came from 5 metropolitan regions with similar living conditions. The participants, however, had different job backgrounds. The study found that most participating patients were college graduates. These people were working as professionals and/or managers.

A number of researchers have indicated that genetics and hormones can also have significant correlation with male breast cancer.
