A Fast Diet to Promote Good Health - But Can It Help Prevent Breast Cancer?

    By Liz Marsden

If you ask most people what they want it's this... They want a fast diet to make them thinner and to be healthy. They'd probably also like to win the lottery, to give up work and have plenty of holidays... Despite that, being thin and healthy is pretty important to most people today.

The question is this... Can some foods encourage weight loss and also promote good health, even to the point of fighting potentially life threatening illnesses such as diabetes and cancer?

Yes, is the answer to the question. It has been scientifically proved that some foods have properties that make them a valuable part of maintaining your health and preventing disease.

Recent research claimed that including certain foods in your diet can help prevent breast cancer as well as helping your fast diet weight loss. That's a powerful claim...

Everybody knows someone, whether a beloved family member, a friend or associate, who has succumbed to cancer. So, if we can do anything to prevent being claimed by this awful disease then we owe it to ourselves and our families follow proven scientific advice.

What are the scientists saying we should do?

We're being told to use olive oil, eat dark coloured fruit and vegetables and whole grains to help prevent breast cancer. The advice is to eat plenty of vegetables. Eat at least 4 servings per day, 3 servings of fruit remembering that one serving is a small amount - 1 apple, 17 grapes, 1/2 a banana, 1 orange, 3 prunes. That's not a lot really...

It's suggested that starch, in the form of whole grains, is an essential part of an anti breast cancer fast diet with 6 to 7 servings each day. One serving would be 1 slice of bread, 1 pitta, 1/2 a bagel, 1oz/25g breakfast cereal/uncooked rice/pasta or 3oz/75g potatoes.

Fats you eat should be mainly olive oil - 4 to 5 servings of fat per day with 3 of these being olive oil. Remember that 1 serving is 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of nuts/sunflower seeds/pine nuts, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, 1/4 avocado or 4oz/100g stoned olives.

This research adds that some dairy products should be included in your anti breast cancer diet with 2 servings eaten each day. Each serving is either 1cup/225ml skimmed milk, one large egg, 4oz/100g cottage cheese, 1oz/25g hard cheese or 1/2 cup/125 ml yoghurt.

It is suggested that meat should largely eliminated from your diet with only 12oz of white meat or fish per week and 6oz of red meat per month which should replace the same quantity of white meat or fish. These amounts of meat are far less than most people eat in their normal diets.

For your successful fast diet the research advises that calorie intake should be limited to 1500 per day whenever you can.
